Watching my life go by…

This week has been a total sprint… seriously. I had hoped to come back from Louisville and slide into a non eventful work week so I could process, do a debrief, and lessons learned. As you can see by looking at this site and a sojournhuntsville.org my “virtual” productivity has been minimal. I have found myself aimlessly staring at Twitter and drooling as I enter some catatonic state. Not good.

Last night I drove mom to Birmingham to catch a flight to Cali to see my sister graduate Law School. Literally, dropped her off and headed back to catch Holly’s choral concert at school. I had every intention of stopping off at Jim-n-Nicks for some gluttonous indulgence of Chicken Finders, onion rings, and cheese biscuits. Traffic was bumper to bumper going 100mph, so as I am looking for my exit I ended up passing it. O’ well… I was able to make it back for the last song of the concert. Holly and I headed over to Starbucks for some caffeinated refreshment. (See video once it is posted).

One thing I did need to mention about Louisville… is Quills Coffee & Books (http://quillscoffee.com/ and http://www.consuminglouisville.com/2007/10/quills-coffee-books.php and http://www.flickr.com/photos/underneath/tags/quillscoffee/ ) While I was their working on last Sunday’s worship flow and listening to Portisheads new record, I ordered some drink that was equivalent to a Caramel Macchiato (not sure what they call it at Quills). It was the BEST cup of “coffee” I have EVER put to my mouth. It was that amazing!!! Better yet, I hear that the owner is a Sojourner. Coffee shops around here need to step it up. I am heading over to Stearns (http://stearnscoffee.com/ )tomorrow to do some work on videos and Sojourn stuff… Hopefully it will live up to the hype.

I am reading through the book of Luke… trying to do some during my lunch break… yesterday sitting at Starbucks on airport I got hammered with this verse…

Luke 6:46 – 49 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

That really got me thinking about the things the Lord has called me to do… All I can seem to do is say, “Lord increase my faith”.

Yeah, Quills is great. It’s actually owned by Nathan and Gabriel Quillo, two brothers who are part of the core group that started Sojourn (Louisville) eight years ago. Before it was officially a church with a name, it was a group of mostly college-aged kids hungering for God who met in Nathan Quillo’s apartment.

Their coffee is from a great micro-roastery/ coffee shop across town called Sunergos, which is also owned by a Sojourner (with a non-Sojourn co-owner).

What the Quillo brothers did was take Sunergos coffee, add in the concept of displaying and selling books, and completely refurbish that building (doing most of their own remodeling work) to create the wonderful vibe they’ve got going there.
