New Doctor… The future look good…

So I took a trip to see Dr. Cost at Total Sports Care.  It is a relief to have competent doctor.  Here is what we are doing to solve the problems with my back…

1.  Epidural in my lower back to stop the pain… short term…
2.  I have to loose 100 lbs. quickly - he mentioned 1800 calorie diet South Beach plan
3.  I have to exercise… cardio + light weight/high reps/fast pace
4.  I have 3 prescriptions for pain and inflammation.

Sounds fun, eh?

I was challenged the scripture where Paul instructs not to become enslaved to anything (1 Cor.6:12).  I was also floored by his statement in 2Co 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”  Also his comments about “dying daily” was a kick in the teeth.

I was challenged by the memory of the Buddhist monks I read about who only eat breakfast and lunch and do not eat anything after noon.   I figured if an unbelieving Buddhist monk could die to his flesh, I as a Christian, who is commanded to die to the flesh, could do that as well.  So I have taken the personal challenge to eat breakfast and lunch only and fast the rest of the day.  So far so good.  I was also challenged by a biography of John Calvin, who figured it was more profitable to study the scriptures and do ministry than to eat or sleep.  Somewhere I heard he slept 4 hours a night and ate one meal a day.  That is amazing discipline…  Perhaps that is why God used him to change the world…

2Ch 16:9  For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

  1. Hey Bro, I’ve got your six.

Here my advice on eating. Do not eat only one meal a day. Rather, spread your caloric count out over 5 or 6 consumptions. Eat your first meal as soon as you can when you get up. Eat your last meal around 5pm, not later than 6. Drink a couple of liters of water a day (always have a full Nalgene bottle at your side).

When you exercise you will quickly hit the wall because you will burn off your carbs quickly. Don’t stop because you are about to transfer to burning off fat. Speaking of which, while you transition to a measly caloric intake you will hit walls during the day. There too, your body is switching to burning fat. Embrace the pain and view it as tangible proof that change is occurring. This is going to be a bear, but will be worth it. Place the pain as a sacrifice at the altar of Jesus. It’s his body/temple anyway.

You can do all this through Christ who actually strengthens you.
