A day in the life…

Now playing: Peter Gabriel - Hit

I took the Jeep up to Taft, Tn. today just to get out of the house, to think, meditate, and pray. I am increasingly burdened, depressed, and convicted at the state of my health, specifically my back. I fell as though I am in a catch 22. Between the proverbial rock and a hard place. Wendy and I have decided to put me on a strict diet in the attempt to drop some major weight. With limited exercise and mobility I have got to do something to get to the pounds off. I am convicted that I have let myself get to this point. I am going to a new doctor on the 27th. Hopefully we can work through this and get some positive feedback and direction. I need to get this corrected now so it is not to interfere with ministry and family anymore than it already has.

I have finished reading through St. John again for the x time. I forget how many times now. I am really happy with my new Cambridge - Wide Margin - KJV - Goatskin Leather. The quality is amazing and there is plenty of room for notes. I am real geeky about bibles and bindings. I found another guy who has the same fetish… J. Mark Bertrand… there is hours of good reading and bible/binding info here. It is like throwing a starving man a steak. I was also turned on by Tony Reinke “Blank Bible” project. I would love to convert some of my books to a spiral binding. I have some commentaries with “comb” bindings that lay flat. Anyone seen Wayne Grudam’s new Systematic’s edition… it is wide margin… no joke. I saw it in Barnes and Noble last night. I wanted to pick it up and give my other one away. Perfect for notes. Perhaps I will grab one soon. I have been marking up the old copy I have.

I finished reading Brother Lawrence’s “The Practice of the Presence of God” last night. It is a good devotional book that attempts to point the reader to focus every moment on walking with GOD and living in his presence. It is a quick read, however, I can see it will be one of those things I come back to over and over again. I started reading “Ethics” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The first chapter is absolutely amazing, however, I am getting bogged down in the 2nd chapter. These are a series of incomplete works that have been put in a compilation. It is something I may have to put aside for a while. Much like Octavius Winslow’s book that eats my lunch every time I pick it up to read. I also just ordered Charles H. Spurgeon “Lectures to my Students” and F.F. Bruce’s “The Canon of Scripture“. I am trying to formulate (reformulate) my belief about the origin of the scripture and its trustworthiness. The idea that the word “scripture” refers to the “original” manuscripts seems foolish to me when we study the word “scripture” in the scripture…  Plus, the doctrine of preservation is seldom discussed or taught (Ps.12:6-7, Mat.5:18, John 10:35)  .  It seems that God has enough power to save us and build his church but not cannot preserve his words without error.  This is where my interest is currently so I am reading and buying all the books on the topic as I can find.
