New Journey Groups - New Opportunities
I am really excited about co-leading a ‘Journey Group - Madison’ with Cindy Martin. It is neat to be on the ground floor watching 2 journey groups being birthed at Sojourn Church. It is a neat thing to watch God raise up leadership, begin conversations, and grow relationships.
I am so excited about the Journey Group that I started a study on the Gospel of John. It is the intention of the Journey Group to use David’s messages in the Gospel of John as a launching point for discussion. This is an easy way of keeping up with the subject. These are also available on the PODCAST. We are also going to make forums available for each Journey Group. This will be a great way to keep the conversation going as we do life together.
Back to my John study… I was stoked last night as I studied John 1-2. The theme of the book of John is found in John 20:30-31…
“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
The first thing that blows me away about this is that everything in John was specifically hand picked, by God - through John, so that the reader would: 1. Believe on Jesus AS CHRIST. 2. After believing you would have LIFE. The idea of ‘life’ is to have fulfillment or purpose. The only way to really have life is to ‘Believe on Jesus AS CHRIST’.
So as I was reading I was noticing how others referred to Jesus as “Christ”, “Lord”, “Rabbi”, “Sent from God”, or “The one Moses and the prophets spoke of”. There is no way to get though the first 2 chapters without being bombarded with the fact that Jesus is the Christ. It is also interesting to note that there are 7 miracles recorded in the book of John. Each one of these miracles was hand picked by God to reveal Jesus to the reader in some way. I have studied these before and write a series of lesions on these miracles. I am looking forward to diving into them again to see what other life changing gleanings I can get out of this study.
