“This Beautiful Mess: Practicing the Presence of the Kingdom of God” - Rick McKinley
One of the most amazing gifts God has given is the ability to read. We walk into one of the Mega Book Marts and see thousands of books. Think about it for a minute… all of those people have a story to tell. I especially like books and stories that relate to my life. I get the feeling that I am not alone in my thoughts or world view or problem or sin.
Rick’s book tackles the issues of the Kingdom of God being here and now. As believers in Jesus Christ the Kingdom of God is here… in us. Rick takes the Kingdom examples that Jesus taught and applies them directly to his culture on Portland, Oregon. But even more far reaching he transcends time and space such that the book is completely applicable to my life… now.
One of the things that has stuck with me as I read the book is the fact that the Kingdom of God is not a construction site. We are not “building the kingdom”. Jesus did not leave is with blueprints, lumber, hammer, and nails… Jesus said the Kingdom is here… it is now… take it in its completeness and bring people too it.
This is a quick reading book… easily read in 3-4 hours. I think it would be a great book to use for a group bible study or Journey Group. The message is simple yet powerful…
