God’s goodness brings repentance…
I am reading in Romans tonight. I love the contrast between chapter one and chapter two. Paul is laying out the judgment of God on people who change God’s truth into lies. Then immediately, lest we who are spiritual should get a “big head”, warns us that we are not their judge. We end up doing the same things. The concept of “do as I say not as I do”. This verse is beautiful…
Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
We should let God deal with the wrath and judgment. We should be about displaying and showing God’s goodness. It is God’s goodness that will change people’s lives. God is patient with calling us to repentance.
This is the clearest verse showing legalism vs. grace.
So many examples of Jesus goodness changing lives… John 4 “Woman at the well”… John 8 caught in adultery. Luke 19 Zacchaeus”
