New Church

It is amazing how God directed me to our new church. I had been praying and asking God to help find a church that would have a laid back environment (i.e. jeans, shorts, flip-flops, piercing, tattoos, good conversation, “easy” relationships, educated without being judgmental, enjoyed beer), good worship, teaching that was relevant and authentic (i.e. not something bought from a ‘high profile’ pastor on the internet), and a place that my kids would love. After surfing the web which took me on a journey through Seattle (Mars Hill Church), New York (Revolution NYC, Atlanta, Charlotte), and Huntsville (Renown) I “stumbled” upon…

A church that meets in a brewery… That has to be my kind of place. I was so excited I told Wendy that we would be going to church as a family. I had not gone to church since July (6 months). I think she was shocked. After xPT I thought I would be done with church. I did not expect to ever go back… God has other plans.

What was amazing about our first visit was not the fact that it was a brewery but the people. They really desired to get to know us and to find out about us. Also the cool thing was that most of the people we met were “new” just like us… So it took the edge off a bit. Just from the first Sunday we made instant friends.

God has reignited my soul to seek him and work for him. The desire for his Word is overwhelming. The desire to really learn and grow and understand who I am historically and spiritually is exciting. I am more sure than ever that God is going to use me in a ministry capacity. I believe Sojourn Church is the catalyst and vehicle.

For me it is about letting go… I have a real propensity to try and force action. I don’t like to wait. However, God is showing me that he has got everything mapped out and that everything is under his control. All I am required to do is to seek him, glorify him in everything I do, and acknowledge his sovereignty… He will take care of the rest.

Anyway, we have been going for 3 weeks and this is home. Wendy and I fell strongly about moving to Huntsville. We spend more time there than Decatur. Now that we have found friendships and church it is official. We are currently trying to save “moving money” and are looking for a place to rent first. Somewhere in 5 Points would be nice… I think.

Things are looking up…
